Blogging & Tech Stuff
If you’re looking to start a blog of any kind, start here. Below is a list of resources that I personally use and love for The Kind Californian.
Bluehost is a name that floated around the web as I was looking into starting up this blog. I didn’t fully understand the hosting concept until I signed up. I’m so happy I made the jump with Bluehost as they install WordPress for you, which is really handy and takes away all complications. When you sign up, you even get your domain for FREE (which if you’re a millennial on a budget, this is good news). To make setting up your blog a breeze, I highly recommend signing up with this company. It’s the price of 1 coffee per month – $3.95!
AWIN is amazing if you’re interested in signing up with a number of different companies! To name a few of my favorites: Etsy, Missguided, PrettyLittleThing, and so many more to suit your blog and the products you want to recommend.
Amazon Affiliates Program is great for those who love to shop on Amazon, like myself. The vast amount of products available on Amazon makes it one of the best affiliate programs.
Before I even set up my site with Bluehost, I was in the ☁️clouds ☁️ with all of the gorgeous themes offered on Etsy. Picking a theme is tough, but so fun because you can visually see your blog come together! To make it easy for you, here are my favorites that I may or may not use in the future: one, two, three.
This camera that I’m currently using is perfect since it’s a great option to throw in my purse or to bring on day trips! I’m starting to look into getting a larger DSLR, and my heart is set on this one.
This may seem strange, but a diaper backpack is the roomiest, well-cushioned space for my gear (laptop, camera, notebooks, etc.). Look into this one if you’re on the hunt for a new bag!
For backdrops and backgrounds, head to the craft store and buy marble or wood paper stock. It’s a simple, cheap upgrade for your photos!
Money & Financials
I have earned over $200 this year (!) by just installing this into my browser. Ebates pays you to shop – really. With a shopping addiction like myself, I thought it was too good to be true. Install it into your browser and the next time you shop online, Ebates will pop up (or you can click on the icon) and tell you both promo codes and how much it will give you back if you decide to checkout. Sometimes it’s 50 cents, or sometimes $10 – but hey, money is money!
If you’re nervous about the world of stocks (like me), get started with these two apps to ease into it. To help save my virtual change, I use Acorns to place any extra “change” I have from purchases into random stocks they select based on how aggressive I want to be. Here’s $5 to start your fund! Robinhood is the other stock market app I use. This one allows you to choose the company you want to purchase in an easy-to-use interface. Here’s one free stock (there’s a possibility of it being Microsoft or Apple – WOW) if you decide to sign up!
Bookmark this for every time you open Amazon! If you’re ever shopping on Amazon, I highly recommend you browse via Smile Amazon. Essentially, everything available on Amazon is available on Smile Amazon except when purchasing on the latter, Smile Amazon donates “0.5% of the purchase price of eligible products to the charitable organization of your choice.” My charity of choice is the ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals)! I love how shopping on Amazon is easy and doing good.
To get an understanding of where my pennies go, I use Mint. The website and app show me exactly where I’m spending money and even allows me to create budgets for each area (ex: clothing, coffee, gas). Let’s just say a majority of my funds goes towards my coffee addiction…
Clothing & Accessories
Etsy is the only place I get my jewelry from (unless I’m traveling and see a piece I like). If you like to support small business owners who make quality jewelry, I highly recommend you try out Etsy.
The best jeans I own are from here.
The luxury handbag company that I swoon over at every single release. The quality is worth the price tag, I promise.
Staring at a screen all day every day? Before I bought blue-light glasses, my eyes would be tired, sore, and red (not a good look). Once I used these consistently when looking at my work screen, computer for blogging, etc., I noticed a huge difference!
